We're cycling 300 km from St Peter's in Doncaster to St Peter's in Crouch End, London. Raising £20,000 for two schools, St Peter's and St Gildas

How far would you go to raise money for your local schools?

For more than 20 parents and governors from St Peter-in-Chains Infant School and St Gildas’ Junior School, the answer to that question is 300 kilometres – or about 186 miles in old money – as they attempt to complete the St Peter’s Bike Ride.

These 20 brave men and women (not all of them are Mamils) will be spending three long, hard days in the saddle – from 8-10 June – cycling from St Peter-in-Chains RC Church in Doncaster to its namesake in Crouch End.

Their aim is to raise at least £20,000 through sponsorship to fund projects that will provide much-needed new facilities at the two schools.

At St-Peter-in-Chains Infant School an awning will be built outside the Reception classes to give the four and five-year-old children vital all-weather, outdoor play space.

At St Gildas’ Junior School we hope to continue to develop the outside play spaces by focusing on the small playground.  A sensory garden will be constructed, complete with an insect ‘hotel’, whilst also considering the views of the children on other aspects that they would like to include in the plans.  The finished area will benefit all children in Years 3 to 6.

These projects are crucial to the development of the 400-plus children who attend the two schools, especially at a time when great uncertainty surrounds school funding. So whatever money you can give in sponsorship or through goodwill will be a great reward for the riders taking part and generations of schoolchildren to come. The cyclists will set off from South Yorkshire early on Friday 8 June and aim to arrive in North London on the afternoon of Sunday 10 June. To ‘meet’ the riders taking part and learn more about the route, visit the 300km Cycle Ride Facebook page:

Alternatively, you can contact the ride organisers – Aileen O’Donnell, Tom Hill, Barry Wynne and Mat Wright, all parents or governors – at stpetersbikeride@gmail.com and they will be happy to give you more information on how you could support this great cause
